Lab grown diamonds have the same properties as earth mined diamonds. They have the same brilliance, luster, and more. This means that it is virtually impossible to tell the difference, unless you have advanced technology used by gemologists.

How are lab grown diamonds made?

During the winter of 1954, the General Electric Research Laboratory first made lab grown diamonds by mimicking the processes of nature. Later on, the now-known company Pure Grown Diamonds refined the process to create diamonds of greater quality by improving its color and clarity.

At the moment, there are two known methods in creating diamonds: high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT), and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). HPHT makes use of high pressures and high temperatures that recreate the conditions in the earth’s crust for diamonds to be made. CVD on the other hand brings the particles of elements that compose diamonds together.

Are lab grown diamonds perfect?

Lab grown diamonds are made from the seed of an existing diamond, which will naturally have its own inclusions, color grade, blemishes, and more. This means that much like earth mined diamonds, lab grown ones will have their own unique cut, clarity, color, and carat size.

How are they assessed?
